Mendelssohn Club Announces Annual Spring Concert

Guest Artists: Broadway Star Carolee Carmello and Pianist Rouben Aivazian

DELMAR, NY (05/05/2011)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 13th in historic Chancellor's Hall in the New York State Education Building. The 102nd annual spring concert – A Grand Night for Singing - will feature a wide range of selections from the club's extensive musical library.

"We are very excited about our upcoming spring concert and our very special guest artists," said Mendelssohn Club president, Michael Casler. "The combination of a great program and our talented and very accomplished guest artists should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience."

Capital Region native and Broadway star Carolee Carmello will be the club's featured guest artist for the evening. Ms. Carmello, a two time Tony Award nominee, recently finished a run as part of the original cast of the Broadway show The Addams Family. She has numerous television credits, and has starred in several Broadway shows, including Mamma Mia! and Kiss Me Kate. Ms. Carmello's father, William Carmello, has been a member of the Mendelssohn Club for 37 years. Also performing with the club as a guest artist will be Rouben Aivazian. Mr. Aivazian has a PhD in Piano from the State Tchaicovsky Conservatory in Moscow. He performed in more than 150 concerts with the National Philharmonic Orchestras of Armenia, Georgia, Latvia, Estonia, Russia and Azerbaijan. In addition he is an accomplished accompanist who has worked with numerous instrumentalists and vocalists.

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 65-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The Club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world.
