Mendelssohn Club of Albany Announces Cancellation of 111th Spring Concert

DELMAR, NY (04/14/2020) (readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany today announced the cancellation of its annual spring concert due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The concert was scheduled to take place on Friday, May 15, 2020 at historic Chancellor's Hall in Albany.

"While difficult, this is obviously the right decision based on the advice of medical professionals and government leaders," said club president Michael Donegan. "The Mendelssohn Club has been a pillar of the Capital Region music and performing arts community for 111 years, and all of the members look forward to continuing the club's proud tradition at the annual holiday concert in December."

The club also announced that conductor Jeff Vredenburg has graciously agreed to postpone his retirement to conduct the club one final time at the holiday concert scheduled for December 11, 2020. Mr. Vredenburg was originally scheduled to retire after the club's spring concert in May.

"The necessary cancellation is disappointing, but I am very honored and pleased that the club invited me to conduct the 2020 holiday concert," Mr. Vredenburg said. "Brenda and I will stay in the Capital District for the fall so the club can hopefully interview candidates and hold auditions for a new conductor who will join the club in January."

The Mendelssohn Club wishes to thank its many longstanding and valued subscribers for their support. The club will contact individual subscribers with more information regarding options for tickets that were already purchased for the 2020 spring concert.
