Mendelssohn Club of Albany to Hold Auditions for 100th Season
Special Centennial Concert Planned for May '09
DELMAR, NY (12/29/2008)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will hold auditions in January for male singers interested in joining the Club for its centennial season in 2009. Tenors and basses are invited to rehearse with the Club on Wednesday, January 7 at 7:15 p.m. at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 916 Western Avenue, Albany, NY.
Prospective members are invited to sing with the Club during the first few rehearsals in 2009. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday, and final auditions will take place near the end of January. The Mendelssohn Club plans to recognize and celebrate its 100th season during its annual Spring Concert on May 16, 2009. The concert will be held at Chancellor's Hall in the State Education Building. Chancellor's Hall holds a special place in the Club's history, as it served as the venue for the Club's annual subscription concerts for 70 years.
About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 75-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The Club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. The Mendelssohn Club is conducted by Dr. Victor Klimash. A faculty member at Union College, Dr. Klimash holds a Doctor of Music in Voice from Florida State University, and a Master's and Bachelor's degree in Voice from The Eastman School of Music. Pianist Michael Clement serves as the Club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, the University of Arizona, and the University of Southern California.
