Mendelssohn Club to Hold Auditions for 109th Season

Traditional Holiday Concert Scheduled for Friday, December 16

DELMAR, NY (08/15/2016)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will hold auditions beginning in August for male singers interested in joining the club for its 109th season. Interested tenors and basses are invited to rehearse with the club on Wednesday, August 31 at 7:15 p.m. at the New Covenant Presbyterian Church, 916 Western Avenue, Albany, NY.

Prospective members are invited to sing with the club during the first few rehearsals in August and September. Rehearsals are held every Wednesday, and final auditions will take place near the end of September. The Mendelssohn Club will perform its traditional holiday concert on Friday, December 16 at The Egg in Albany. Other upcoming performances include an evening of music at the Orchard Tavern on Saturday, September 17 at 6:00 p.m., and a performance as the guest artist at the CDYC World Folk Music Concert at Union College Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 14 at 7:30 p.m.

About The Mendelssohn Club: A Capital Region tradition since 1909, the 65-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. The Club is composed of men from the Capital District, Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions, and performs a full range of male choral selections from around the world. The Club has performed in over 85 different locations, including Lincoln Center and the Mormon Tabernacle.

The Mendelssohn Club is conducted by Jeffrey L. Vredenburg. Mr. Vredenburg is a graduate of the Crane School of Music, State University College at Potsdam, New York where he majored in Music Education, Voice, and Piano. His post-graduate education includes a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from the State University of New York in Albany and choral conducting seminars with Donald Neuen, Dale Warland, Robert Page, Gregg Smith, and Margaret Hillis.

Pianist Michael Clement serves as the Club's accompanist. Mr. Clement was trained at the Eastman School of Music, University of Arizona, and University of Southern California. Michael has performed concerts throughout the US, and has served as music director of Opera Excelsior, vocal coach at the College of Saint Rose, accompanist at Skidmore College, and music director of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Albany, New York.
