Mendelssohn Club to Perform Annual Holiday Concert on December 11

Special Guest: Jazz Vocal Trio, String of Pearls

DELMAR, NY (11/29/2010)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional holiday concert at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10th at The Egg in Albany, NY. The Club's special guest for the evening will be the vocal trio, String of Pearls, and the theme for this year's concert is "Hallelujah, Halalu – In the Spirit of the Season."

A Capital Region tradition since 1909, and celebrating its 102nd season, the 65-voice male chorus is the area's longest continuously performing arts group. An evening of both classical and popular holiday music is planned, and the concert offers a perfect way for Capital Region residents to welcome the holiday season.

"This holiday season we will sing a set of 'Hallelujahs' – including those by Beethoven and Handel – and traditional carols and other songs to celebrate Christmas and Hanukkah," said club president Dr. Michael Casler. "We are also very excited to welcome the jazz vocal trio, String of Pearls as our guest."

Tickets are $18 and can be obtained by calling The Egg box office at 473-1845. Please visit the Mendelssohn Club online at www.mendelssohn.org for more information.

About String of Pearls: New York's own, String of Pearls is a female jazz vocal trio that performs vintage "girl group" music and modern vocal jazz with swing, style, and superb musicality. Sue Halloran, Jeanne O'Connor and Holli Ross were all working as professional solo singers in New York when they were brought together to perform at a nostalgia-oriented concert. Since then the group has created a sophisticated repertoire that ranges from authentic re-creations of Boswell Sisters songs from the 1930s to adventurous original jazz vocal arrangements. Holli, Jeanne, and Sue have brought their harmonies to festivals, concerts, and clubs in the U.S. and abroad.
