Mendelssohn Club's 101st Spring Concert to Benefit the Irish American Heritage Museum

Special Guest Artist: Hair of the Dog

DELMAR, NY (04/21/2010)(readMedia)-- The Mendelssohn Club of Albany will perform its traditional spring concert at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14th in historic Chancellor's Hall in the New York State Education building on Washington Avenue across from the State Capitol. The Club also announced a portion of the proceeds from all ticket sales will benefit the Irish American Heritage Museum.

The 101st annual spring concert – Greeting to Spring -- will feature Irish music and songs about spring as well as a tribute to the great American composer, conductor and teacher, Alice Parker. Ms. Parker will be in attendance as the Mendelssohn Club debuts her arrangement of a piece that was commissioned in memory of a former club member. The Capital Region's favorite Irish band, Hair of the Dog, will be the Club's special guest artist for the evening.

"We are very excited about our upcoming spring concert and the opportunity to help support the proud tradition and good work of the Irish American Heritage Museum," said Mendelssohn Club president, Michael Palumbo. "The combination of a great program and our well-known guest artist, Hair of the Dog, should provide a wonderful evening of music for our audience to enjoy while supporting a very worthy institution."

Edward S. Collins, chairman of the board of the Irish American Heritage Museum said, "The 65-strong male voices of the Mendelssohn Club of Albany offer up a not-to-be missed evening of stunning songs celebrating spring and Ireland and helping raise funds for the Museum's mission. Few places in America the size of New York's Capital Region are blessed to enjoy a group that fills a historic site like Chancellors Hall with such soaring voices!"

Tickets are $16 and can be obtained by calling 428-5382 or e-mailing tickets@mendelssohn.org. Please visit the Mendelssohn Club on-line at www.mendelssohn.org for more information. Covered parking is available one block from the State Education Building.
