Menifee Native Presents at 2013 Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research at Whittier College

WHITTER, CA (11/27/2013)(readMedia)-- Senior Hayden Schmidt, a Menifee native, participated in the 2013 Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR), Change the World: Participate, Innovate, Illuminate, hosted by Whittier College on Saturday, November 23, along with 1,100 scholars from colleges and universities from throughout the region.
A biology and chemistry double major, Schmidt presented his research, "Reactivation of zebrafish acetylcholinesterase by novel oxime compounds following inhibition by organophosphate pesticides," in a 15-minute seminar presentation chaired by faculty moderators.
Nominated to the Whittier College Dean's List and awarded the John Greenleaf Whittier Merit Scholarship, Schmidt was most recently awarded the Fletcher-Jones Fellowship program which supports Whittier's best science students each year by providing funds for students to have science research assistantships in the summer following their junior year and for continuing scholarly activity during their senior year.
SCCUR provides a forum for the presentation of the best research, scholarship, and creative activities of undergraduate students in the region, and encourages communication of innovative achievements across disciplines, including the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and applied sciences.
