MACON, GA (06/09/2011)(readMedia)-- Mercer University recently honored graduating senior Mary Kathryn Wiley of Hamilton with an award at its 2011 Honors Convocation. Professor Dr. Mary Ann Drake presented Wiley with the Sophie Oxley Clark Williams Outstanding Essay Award from Mercer's Great Books program. Wiley graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Liberal Arts at the University's Macon commencement on May 14.

Her winning essay, titled "Suffering and Solitude as the Companions of Art," was written on Proust's In Search of Lost Time. An English major, Wiley is the daughter of Susan T. Wiley and the late Philip F. Wiley of Hamilton.
