MACON, GA (06/07/2011)(readMedia)-- Mercer University recently honored rising senior Katie Matthews of Thomaston at its 2011 Honors Convocation. Dr. Frank Macke, professor of communication studies, presented Matthews with the Outstanding Junior in Communication Studies Award at the ceremony.

Matthews is a communications major with a double minor in criminal justice and political science. She is the daughter of Andy and Kathy Matthews of Thomaston. Her grandparents are Jean and MacGruder Matthews and the late Sammy and Marie Harris, all of Thomaston.
