SCRANTON, PA (06/14/2013)(readMedia)-- Meredith Claire Lubas of Linden, a 2013 graduate of The University of Scranton, received the Lawrence Mann Award from the University at Commencement. Lubas was recognized for academic excellence and outstanding service alongside 67 other graduates who earned some of the nation's most prestigious honors including Goldwater, Truman and Fulbright scholarships.

Lubas majored in nursing with a concentration in nutrition at the Jesuit university. She served as student government vice-president and as a community assistant for Pilarz Hall. She also served on the 2013 class committee, the president's student cabinet, and as the president's alumni liaison.

Lubas volunteered for activities such as Street Sweep and Floor Volunteer Projects through her roles on student government and residence life. She has traveled domestically and internationally to volunteer on service trips, most recently on a two-week healthcare trip to Uganda, Africa.

Lubas hopes to secure a nursing position in an intensive care setting and return to school for a master's degree in nursing with a specialization as a family health nurse practitioner. She hopes to use her degree to serve an under-represented population.
