Michael Border Receives Award for Diabetes Research

ALLIANCE, OH (01/04/2011)(readMedia)-- Michael Border of Strongsville, Ohio received first place in the dental research cat-egory at the American College of Prosthodontics' national conference in Orlando, FL. Border, a senior biochemistry major, graduated from Strongsville High School before coming to the University of Mount Union.

As the only undergraduate student in attendance, his work investigated salivary proteomes and their potential development into diagnostic tools for type II diabetes.

The national conference focuses on innovations in the field of oral prosthetics, implant procedures and tissue regeneration therapies. Within the category of dental research, he competed against 60 other individuals ranging from dental students to doctoral candidates. The competition consisted of a poster presentation and an oral defense of his research to a panel of six judges.
