Michael Weaver, a Colonie Resident, Retires from New York Air National Guard After 28 Years of Service

LATHAM, NY (04/24/2013)(readMedia)-- Colonie resident Michael Weaver has retired from the New York Air National Guard after 28 years of service in the military.
Weaver, a Master Sergeant in the 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air National Guard Base, was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal during his retirement ceremony at the base earlier this month.
Weaver joined the Air Force in April 1982 and also served in the Air Force Reserve as well as in the New York Air National Guard. His original assignment was as an avionics test station specialist for the F-111 bomber and he served in Great Britain from 1984 to 1986 working on that aircraft.
He joined the Air Force Reserve in Colorado Springs and served on active duty during the Persian Gulf War in 1991. He joined the 109th Airlift Wing in 1994 as a member of the 139th Aeromedical Squadron.
Since joining the 109th Weaver has deployed in support of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and for state emergency missions here at home.
Weaver has accumulated over 1400 flying hours during his years in the military. He holds an Associate degree in Avionics Systems Technology and runs his own painting business.
