Michael Weincek of Fleetwood Recognized for Service at University of Scranton Commencement

SCRANTON, PA (06/14/2012)(readMedia)-- Michael Joseph Wiencek, Fleetwood, was among the 65 students honored by The University of Scranton during its undergraduate Class Night ceremony. The Jesuit university awarded outstanding members of the Class of 2012 for service and academic achievement.
Wiencek received the Jesuit Community Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service. He earned a bachelor of science, cum laude, in biology and philosophy and graduated from the University's Special Jesuit Liberal Art Honors Program.
Wiencek was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Beta Beta Beta honor societies and was named to "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges." He was the men's club volleyball team captain, a resident assistant and a member of the biology club, Excess Food For Others Recovery Team, Jesuit University Students Concerned with Empowerment Club and Urban Beats.
Wiencek was also involved with the Community Outreach Office, Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania, University Ministries, Student Government, Scranton Emerging Leaders and the Class of 2012 Committee.
Upon graduation, Wiencek will teach for a year at the new Jesuit high school being established in Yap, Micronesia.
He graduated from Central Catholic High School, Reading.
