Miller Family from Steamboat Rock Wins $1,000 ISave 529 Giveaway at Iowa State Fair
DES MOINES, IA (09/17/2024) (readMedia)-- State Treasurer Roby Smith awarded the Miller Family of Steamboat Rock with a $1,000 ISave 529 contribution from the Iowa State Fair Giveaway. Kathy Jo Miller's entry for her three-year-old grandson, Griffin, was drawn as the winner. "Our giveaway at the Iowa State Fair is a great way to spread the message about saving for education with ISave 529," said Smith. "In addition to boosting Griffin's savings with this giveaway, I hope it also raises awareness about how easy it is to invest in the future dreams of the children in your life."

ISave 529 is Iowa's direct-sold 529 plan, formerly College Savings Iowa. ISave 529 offers tax-deferred growth and tax-free qualified withdrawals for all Account Owners. Additionally, Iowa taxpayers can deduct up to $5,500 in contributions per Beneficiary account from their 2024 state income taxes, and all withdrawals are tax-free.
Money invested in the ISave 529 plan can be used to pay for tuition, room and board, computers, textbooks and more at any eligible education institution in the U.S. or abroad. This includes two- and four-year colleges, apprenticeship programs and trade schools. In addition to higher-education expenses, up to $10,000 can be withdrawn to pay for tuition expenses in connection with enrollment at a K-12 institution or used for repayment of any qualified education loan.
