ALBANY, NY (01/13/2009)(readMedia)-- I strongly support Assembly Republican Leader James Tedisco and the Assembly Republican Conference's call for a special election to fill United States Senate vacancies. The current system, where one person alone bestows the public office on whomever they see fit, is simply unfair and undemocratic.
Assemblyman Tedisco and his conference are taking a leading role in fighting for the people of this state who should have the right to choose their representatives. I commend Assemblyman Tedisco and his conference for their tenacity and determination on behalf of the public.
Just a few days ago, county chairs from across the state collectively issued a call for a special election to protect the integrity of our government and avoid the chaos and unethical activity that is surrounding Senate appointments in a number of states. The rights of the voters can, and must, be protect by passing this one simple bill.
Democrats should act in the best interests of democracy and the hard working families and businesses in this state, not self-serving, insider political maneuvering. The Democrats should act today.
