Mondello to Paterson: Act Now
Call Special Election, 20th CD Residents Must Be Represented
ALBANY, NY (01/29/2009)(readMedia)-- New York Republican State Committee Chairman Joseph N. Mondello today called on Governor David Paterson to immediately set a date for the special election to fill the vacancy in the 20th congressional district caused by his appointment of Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand to the United States Senate.
"As the nation confronts the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, it is imperative that our state is fully represented in Congress," Mondello said. "The time for Paterson to act is now.
"The people of the 20th congressional district can't afford to have the Governor waver, waffle and hesitate before setting a date for the election. These times demand decisive action from our chief executive not a replay of the indecisiveness that marred his selection of New York's junior senator," Chairman Mondello concluded.
