ALBANY, NY (04/14/2010)(readMedia)-- New York Secretary of State Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez today announced that the agency's Division of Licensing Services licensed nearly 60 percent more real estate professionals in March 2010 than in March 2009, while the number of licensed security guards and appearance enhancement operators rose 24 percent and 39 percent, respectively, during the same time period.

"The March numbers show a positive trend in the real estate industry – that it is poised to bounce back in New York. More New Yorkers are applying for licenses and starting new businesses now than at this time last year. That will lead to greater job creation down the line," Secretary of State Cortés-Vázquez said.

Overall, the number of new licensees rose 22.6 percent in the first quarter of 2010, as compared to the first quarter of 2009, and the number of newly filed incorporation papers rose 5.4 percent for the same time period.

Additionally, Secretary Cortés-Vázquez announced that the Division of Corporations received a total of 12,999 applications for incorporation in March 2010 – compared to the 12,055 applications it received in March 2009, or an increase of 7.8 percent.
