PADUCAH, KY (06/13/2017) West Kentucky Community and Technical College (WKCTC) has offered nearly $700,000 in scholarships for the 2017-2018 school year, announced college officials today.

Paducah Junior College, Inc., (PJC), the charitable foundation supporting WKCTC, will provide up to $638,000, with WKCTC providing $52,880 to fund scholarships, said Lee Emmons, WKCTC vice president for institutional advancement and Paducah Junior College executive director. Emmons said more than 600 students have been offered a scholarship from one of the College's 80 scholarship funds.

In addition, the Community Scholarship Program, a public-private partnership spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Paducah, will pay tuition costs remaining after other sources of financial aid are exhausted for graduates of any high school in McCracken County, as long as specified criteria related to grades and behavior are met and the student enrolls at WKCTC the fall semester after their high school graduation. Approximately $440,000 will be awarded through the Community Scholarship Program in the coming school year.

"These scholarships would not be possible without community support," said Emmons. "We are grateful for the many donors who contribute to designated scholarship funds, the Community Scholarship Program, and the College's general scholarship fund each year. Scholarships reduce financial barriers that can stand in the way of education, while recognizing student achievement," she said.

WKCTC President Anton Reece points to education as the key to bolstering the region.

"Expanding opportunities for education is essential in order to grow a skilled workforce and make our region stronger socially and economically," Reece said. "We appreciate every donor who chooses to support education in western Kentucky by contributing to Paducah Junior College and WKCTC."
