Morgan Park graduate Zach Wenner named the Lake Forest College Athlete of the Week

The sophomore swimmer broke two pool records at the Monmouth Invitational

LAKE FOREST, IL (11/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Swimmer Zach Wenner (Chicago/Morgan Park) was named Forester Athlete of the Week on Thursday for his performance at the Monmouth Invitational the previous Saturday.

Wenner, a sophomore, helped lead the Forester men to a first-place finish at the seven-team meet. He started his day by winning the 200-freestyle with a pool record time of 1:47.61, nearly six seconds faster than the second-place finisher from Loras College. Wenner also set a pool record in the 100-freestyle and his time of 48.66 seconds was more than a second better than the runner-up. He finished the meet by anchoring the Foresters' 800-freestyle relay team that placed second with a time of 7:43.08.

Wenner's time in the 100-freestyle is the fastest in the Midwest Conference this season and he ranks second in the 200-freestyle. Other times he posted earlier in the year rank among the top five in the league in the 50-, 500-, and 1000-freestyle.

Forester Athletes of the Week are selected by the Athletic Department on Thursdays.
