NEWTON, MA (10/26/2012)(readMedia)-- Newton, MA-Mount Ida College's School of Animal Science is pleased to invite the Newton and Mount Ida communities to attend the vesting ceremony of "Dakota", the Newton Police Department's K-9 Unit dog, and special guest police officer Dan Valente on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 9:00 AM at the Veterinary Technology building on campus at 777 Dedham Street in Newton Center.
Mount Ida's veterinary technology students, who also are members of the Student Chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (SCNAVTA), raised money for the bullet proof K-9 vest through their annual community rabies clinic last spring. Partnering with Vest-a-Dog Network (www.vestadog.org), a non-profit organization committed to the mission to protect K-9 lives, the students were able to identify local K-9 "Dakota" as a recipient for the vest.
Professor Kim Karolides of the School of Animal Science and Advisor for Mount Ida's SCNAVTA Chapter stated, "Every year our students raise money to charities dedicated to the health and welfare of animals. When the Vest-a-Dog Network contacted Officer Dan Valente about our gift to the Department's K-9 dog "Dakota", he was very grateful and appreciative. Our students are excited to welcome them both to campus this Saturday and be a part of the vesting ceremony."
