Move-in week at College Village

BATAVIA, NY (08/24/2012)(readMedia)-- Residents of College Village at Genesee Community College are moving in this week, armed with bins and boxes overflowing with pillows, photos and other comforts that will make their suites home for the next school year. The apartment-style suites are fully furnished with living room and bedroom furniture, as well as stoves and refrigerators in the kitchens, and wireless Internet access.

Among the dozens of smiling faces greeting the new students was returning Resident Assistant (RA) Kaileigh Domster of Sardinia. "My best advice for new students is to get involved!" says the enthusiastic bio-tech major. "That, and of course, follow the rules." Kaileigh says the best part of her on-campus job is helping students. "I love the look on their face after you've given them some advice or answers that relieve their stress. The job can be a challenge, with juggling a full-time class schedule, but I love it."

Kaileigh was in the parking lot outside Building I-Willow Hall-when cousins Emily and Ashley Principio of Geneva started unloading a minivan brimming with belongings. They also had a lot of help from their moms, dads, brothers and aunt. "We're so excited!" said Emily, eager to begin taking the steps that will lead her down her chosen career path.

That path may lead to any of more than 60 degree and certificate programs from which students can enter the job market, or continue their education with transferable credits for a bachelor's or higher degree. While the fall semester starts this Monday, August 27, the twelve-week session of courses begins on September 24 and the eight-week session starts October 22. These late-start courses offer the same academic program but in a condensed format, perfect for adult learners. Students can consider an array of different course options from Western Art History to Film Comedy, Algebra to 3D Design, Intro to Computers and Career and Educational Planning and many more. GCC's flexible study options include full and part-time enrollment, online learning and night, weekend and Sunday classes. For more information, visit: http://www.genesee.edu/options.
