MoveOn.org Speaks, Hillary and Obama Jump

Mondello Statement

ALBANY, NY (09/18/2007)(readMedia)-- Last week, we saw Hillary Clinton lead the Democrats in silently standing by as MoveOn.org insulted and slandered the distinguished career and impeccable reputation of Four-Star General David Petraeus.

They should have received General Petraeus’ report and analyzed it as part of a substantive discussion surrounding the War on Terror. Instead they said nothing that would discount the offensive attacks or return to the issue of keeping Americans safe.

It is disturbing to now hear that a mere seventy-two hours after MoveOn.org issued a public call for Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama to speak out sooner and more vocally in opposition to a bill to fund the troops in Iraq, both Democratic presidential contenders have obediently danced to MoveOn.org’s tune.

This intensifies the question of whether Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama possess the leadership and independence critical to serving as our President and the commander and chief of our armed forces. Dutifully following MoveOn.org’s playbook of slander and kneejerk military surrender is not what we need from our President.

In a dangerous and troubled world, we need leaders who will make important decisions based on thoughtful contemplation and doing what is right, not political expedience and the demands of a fringe interest group.
