ANNVILLE, PA (03/02/2015)(readMedia)-- The Lebanon Valley College 2014–2015 Colloquium on Gender presents the film Band of Sisters at 6 p.m. Monday, March 16 at the Allen Theatre in Annville. The movie's producer/director, Mary Fishman, will be in attendance.

Band of Sisters explores the lives of more than a dozen Catholic nuns in the United States. These women, from all over the country, discuss the reformation brought about by Vatican II and its relevancy in the 1960s. During this era of social reconstruction, the nuns embraced the call of Vatican II to serve; their actions evoked resistance from members of the church hierarchy who opposed their changes.

Band of Sisters travels with sisters who continue their mission as organic farmers, environmental attorneys, peace activists, holistic health care practitioners, podcasters, and more. In the face of obstacles posed by government agencies, the military, and the hierarchy of their own church, the forward-thinking U.S. nuns are on a mission of love, and it appears that nothing can stop them.

With poignancy, drama, and humor, Band of Sisters presents engaging characters in a deeply-moving story of hope for people of all faiths. The sisters' involvement in many social justice movements promises to inspire others to speak for the voiceless.

This Annville screening will be followed by a discussion of the movie with both producer/director, Mary Fishman, and Sister Mary Cronin, who serves as director of religious education at St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Annville. Admission is $3 for the public, $1 for non-LVC students, and free for LVC students with student ID.
