Mundelein Resident Edgar Nieto Receives Dominican's Outstanding Service Leadership Award

RIVER FOREST, IL (05/03/2011)(readMedia)-- Edgar Nieto, a resident of Mundelein, recently received the Outstanding Service Leadership Award from Dominican University for his extraordinary service on campus and in the larger community.

In Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, he has volunteered with Casa de Providencia's after school and art education programs, working with recent immigrants to the United States. He has been a leader in University Ministry serving as a member of Student Leadership and Ministry (SLAM) and as a representative for the Dominican College Students Preaching conference in New York. He is also a Schmitt Scholar, a scholarship awarded by the Arthur J. Schmitt Foundation. Nieto is the president of the Organization of Latin American Students (OLA), and a coordinator of the Van Outreach Program, a partnership with The Night Ministry that provides food and hospitality to those experiencing homelessness.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor's degrees through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and master's degrees through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, and the Graduate School of Social Work.
