Caulene Hudson as Rosalind and Micah Laird as Orlando

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL (02/11/2013)(readMedia)-- The Flagler College Department of Theatre Arts will bring one of Shakespeare's most beloved heroines to life as it presents William Shakespeare's "As You Like It" beginning March 1.

The play is the story of Rosalind, who, dressed as a boy, encounters her love, Orlando, writing and hanging love verses on trees. Set in the Forest of Arden, the play is and filled with a motley host of country characters, clowns and misanthropes, and features a charming love story that celebrates living in the freedom of a natural paradise, free from the constraints of court.

Andrea McCook, the production's director and associate professor of Theatre Arts at Flagler College says she selected this play for its themes of flight from society into the harmony of nature.

"Just as Henry Flagler came to St. Augustine, building the Ponce de Leon Hotel to establish a paradise in the wilderness of Florida, so does Duke Senior bring his courtiers to the Forest of Arden," said McCook.

Performances of "As You Like It" will be held in the Lewis Auditorium at Flagler College, 14 Granada St., St. Augustine, on March 1, 2, 8 and 9 at 7:30 p.m. and March 3 and 10 at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the auditorium box office Monday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. beginning Feb. 25.

For more information, call the box office at 904-826-8600.
