COLUMBUS, GA (10/11/2011)(readMedia)-- A promising musician from Winston-Salem, NC has been named one of the 2011 Woodruff Scholars at Columbus State University, an honor that recognizes the most gifted and talented students recruited by CSU's Schwob School of Music.

Colin Fullerton, a graduate of University of North Carolina School of the Arts, is now a freshman majoring in guitar performance at Columbus State, benefitting from a unique scholarship program designed to attract top-tier student artists from around the world.

Fullerton, the son of Richard and Susan Fullerton, is a first prize winner in 9 national, international, or state competitions, and has been a finalist or semifinalist in virtually all of his competition appearances, including 2nd prize in the Guitar Foundation of America's prestigious International Youth Competition, Senior Division, in 2010. He has been asked to play in numberous venues nationwide, including the GFA's "Youth Showcase" at their 2007 annual convention held in Los Angeles, CA.

Established in 1999 by the Woodruff Family Foundation, the Woodruff Scholars program has helped CSU's Schwob School of Music establish itself as one of the most selective music programs in the Southeast. Each recipient of the award is required to have earned a full scholarship, covering tuition, housing and meals, from the university's general music scholarship fund. The Woodruff Award then provides a $5,000 annual stipend in addition to the scholarship. Intended for entering undergraduates, the award is renewable up to four years, provided the recipient demonstrates and achieves the desired level of excellence set forth by the selection committee.

Fullerton hopes to make a career as a concert artist and pedagog, eventually premiering his own compositions, which should start to materialize in the near future.

With nationally distinctive programs in the arts, education, business, nursing and more, Columbus State University provides a creative, deeply personal and relevant college experience. Serving the Southeast while attracting students from around the world, Columbus State thrives on community partnerships to deliver excellence for students who want to achieve personal and professional success in an increasingly global environment. Just 100 miles southwest of Atlanta, Columbus State University is a member of the University System of Georgia, enrolling more than 8,200 students in a wide variety of degree programs, from online degrees to a doctorate in education.
