NEW CONCORD, OH (02/25/2014)(readMedia)-- The Muskingum University Concert Choir and Wind Ensemble will present two concerts in Louisville on Friday, March 7, as part of their annual spring tour.
The first will take place at 12:30 p.m. at The Presbyterian Center, 100 Witherspoon St., and the second will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Rd.
These events are free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected to offset the groups' expenses.
The concerts will feature a wide variety of music, including choral works by Brahms, Poulenc and Lauridsen; instrumental works by Vaughan Williams, Holst and Hazo; plus spirituals, hymns and patriotic songs.
The premier choral ensemble at Muskingum University, the Concert Choir performs music from a variety of cultures and historical periods, from Renaissance pieces to contemporary choral works. The Concert Choir performs several concerts on campus each year, both on its own and in collaboration with the Muskingum Choral Society and the Southeastern Ohio Symphony Orchestra. Recent national and international tours have taken members of the choir to New York City, Philadelphia, Nashville, Salzburg, Vienna and Lucerne. The Concert Choir is directed by Dr. Zebulon Highben.
The Muskingum Wind Ensemble is the university's premier instrumental ensemble. Drawing its repertoire from both the classic wind band literature and contemporary works, the Wind Ensemble regularly commissions or co-commissions new pieces by prominent band composers. Each year the ensemble presents numerous formal and informal concerts, an annual tour, and performs for academic ceremonies and civic events. The Wind Ensemble is directed by Dr. David Turrill.
