NAU Graduate, Carl Griffin, Wins Annual Shamrock Run in Vicenza, Italy
FLAGSTAFF, AZ (03/29/2011)(readMedia)-- Carl Griffin--a 2009 International Affairs graduate from Northern Arizona University, and Flagstaff resident--finished first place out of 250 participants in the annual Shamrock 5K road race held each year by the 173rd Airborne Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy. Griffin's finishing time was 17:17.
Griffin was a member of the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) while attending the university and received the Raytheon-Hughes Award as the top ROTC commissioned officer, out of 4,500 in the United States in 2009. After completing his bachelor's degree, Griffin received his commission in the U.S. Army and recently graduated from the U.S. Army's Ranger, Airborne, Air Assault, and Pathfinder schools.
Griffin is now serving as a platoon leader in the Second Battalion in the 173rd Airborne Combat Team stationed in Vicenza, Italy.
