NEW YORK PROSECUTOR HONORED WITH STATE BAR ASSOCIATION KAY CRAWFORD MURRAY AWARD
ALBANY, NY (01/24/2017)(readMedia)-- Catherine A. Christian of New York City is the 2017 recipient of the Kay Crawford Murray Award presented by the Committee on Women in the Law of the New York State Bar Association.
The award, which Christian received on January 24 during the Association's Annual Meeting in New York City, recognizes an attorney who enhances diversity in the profession and advances the professional development of women attorneys.
"We are delighted to present the Kay Crawford Murray Award to Ms. Christian, a leader and tireless advocate for promoting diversity who truly represents the values we seek to recognize," said Ferve E. Ozturk (Baker & Hostetler), co-chair of the Committee on Women in the Law.
Christian is an assistant district attorney in New York County where she is chief of the Elder Abuse Unit. Christian was assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit the first six years of her career. In 2015, she was appointed to the state Judicial Committee on Elder Justice, which is charged with developing programs to improve ways the court system handles cases against seniors.
Christian is a member of the State Bar's House of Delegates. She is a past president of the New York County Lawyers' Association and active member of its Task Force on Diversity in the Profession.
Christian graduated with high honors from Hofstra University and earned her law degree from the Dickinson School of Law.
The 72,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
