He will also present a work by Jan Koetsier, accompanied by three Crane School of Music trombonists.

Curran will also lead a public masterclass for select Crane trombone students, at 3 p.m. on Dec. 3, also in Snell Theater.

About the performer:

George Curran became the bass trombonist of the New York Philharmonic in June 2013, after serving in that role with the Orchestra during the 2012–13 season. Previously, he was a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for five years and a fellow with the New World Symphony. He has also performed with Gerard Schwarz's All-Star Orchestra and the major orchestras of Cincinnati, Detroit, Colorado, North Carolina and Alabama. Curran has just finished a busy summer that included two trips to Asia. He was a soloist and judge at the Jeju International Wind Ensemble Festival in South Korea, and he also went to Shanghai with other members of the New York Philharmonic, as part of a teaching residency.

Curran has recently been a part of several recording projects as well. In 2010, he performed with the Atlanta Trombone Project on a recording titled "Roadwork." This project resulted in the formation of the Southeast Trombone Symposium, a weeklong summer workshop at Columbus State University, where he still performs and teaches. Curran was also a soloist on an album released in 2013, titled "A Beautiful Noise," which features prominent trombone soloists performing with the CSU Trombone Choir. He has performed concertos with the U.S. Army Band at the Eastern Trombone Workshop, the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra and many college ensembles. He is also now on the teaching faculty of Bard College and Montclair State University.

A native of Farmington Hills, Mich., Curran received his bachelor's degree in music education on the euphonium from Central Michigan University and a master's degree in bass trombone performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers have included John Rojak and Peter Norton.

This concert will be broadcast live on the SUNY Potsdam website at the performance time. To view the program and see other upcoming streaming performances, visit www.potsdam.edu/academics/Crane/streaming.
