NYC Arts in Education Roundtable on Final City Budget
NEW YORK, NY (06/14/2022) (readMedia)-- Late last night, the New York City Council approved the City's Fiscal 2023 Budget. In response, Kimberly Olsen, Executive Director of the New York City Arts in Education Roundtable, issued the following statement:
"The new $3 million Citywide initiative added to the budget, Support for Arts Instruction, demonstrates a commitment to finding a path to ensure that all New York City schools can provide every student with a rich, diverse arts education experience. The initiative will help schools fill gaps in access and target supplemental arts instruction to struggling students. Arts education is transformative for students. It not only helps them explore their creativity, it leads to better academic outcomes, mental health, and graduation rates. The arts reach all students, especially those with learning disabilities and multilingual learners, in ways that other subjects can not. And most importantly, it is a core subject. It's not extra or optional – it's a lifeline for students. We're looking forward to working with our partners in the City Council, Adams Administration and the Department of Education to build on this foundation and push for arts education for all – because it starts with the arts."
