EVENT & PHOTO-OP:Grammy-nominated singer and New York City public high school student Karina Pasian will perform at Renaissance Leadership Academy to celebrate the closing of the second annual "NYC Young Women's Volunteer Summit." The event, which will host hundreds of New York City youth ages 12-18, was created in partnership by the nonprofit Children for Children®, the Mayor's Volunteer Center of New York City, and the NYC Commission on Women's Issues to mobilize hundreds of young women in the spirit of fostering community leadership and to learn more about the ways they can positively impact others and transform the world around them through volunteerism and service. Joining Ms. Pasian at the event will be the NYC Commission on Women's Issues Chair, Anne Sutherland Fuchs and Children for Children® Executive Director Maggie Jones.
DETAILS:The NYC Young Women's Volunteer Summit will kick off with a morning of educational workshops and panel discussions provided by community leaders on topics such as environmentalism, women's issues, financial literacy, and health. In the afternoon, participants will engage in hands-on service projects that will benefit women and families throughout New York City including the packaging of thousands of pounds of products donated through the Products of Hope Drive that will be distributed to women's shelters and victims of domestic violence.
Children for Children® (CFC) mobilizes the energy, ingenuity and compassion of young people, beginning at an early age, to discover their power and potential to solve real world problems through volunteer opportunities and service-learning programs that instill a lifelong commitment to service. CFC works with approximately 130,000 children each year through a national network of service-learning and giving programs.
The Mayor's Volunteer Center of NYCThe Mayor's Volunteer Center of NYC, a program of the Mayor's Community Affairs Unit, brings together individuals, corporations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations to connect people and facilitate meaningful volunteer opportunities that improve the quality of life in New York City. Its goal is to make every New Yorker a volunteer. Throughout the year, the Mayor's Volunteer Center promotes and organizes thousands of volunteer opportunities in partnership with community organizations and nonprofits in all five boroughs.
The NYC Commission on Women's Issues was established by Mayoral Executive Order in 1975 as an advisory body to the Mayor on matters impacting the lives of York City women. The Commission connects New Yorkers to services that support and advance women while working with other City Agencies to enhance existing programs and create new initiatives that uniquely benefit women.
