NYISO Announces Panelist for 2014 Energy Conference
National Grid's Rudolph Wynter Joins Aging Infrastructure and Grid Modernization Panel
RENSSELAER, NY (05/21/2014)(readMedia)-- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) today announced that Rudolph Wynter, president of National Grid's FERC related businesses, will participate in the first panel at its upcoming 2014 Energy Conference, "Grid Modernization & Competitive Markets: Shaping the Future Electric System," on June 24 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.
As president of FERC-related businesses, Mr. Wynter is responsible for electric transmission, electric generation, liquefied natural gas (LNG) storage in Providence, Rhode Island, and gas transmission pipeline investments. He will join the "Aging Infrastructure and Grid Modernization" panel that will focus on the challenges and opportunities presented by aging electricity infrastructure and the role of competitive markets in providing incentives for timely, well-targeted investment. Other panelists include: Christopher Crane, president and CEO, Exelon Corporation; William Ball, executive vice president and chief transmission officer, Southern Company; and William Hogan, professor of global energy policy, Harvard University. The panel moderator will be Gavin Donohue, president and CEO of the Independent Power Producers of New York, Inc. (IPPNY).
While significant investments are being made in deploying smart grid technologies, New York's bulk power system rests on high-voltage transmission facilities that are, on average, more than 40 years old. Various private sector and public initiatives-such as the New York Energy Highway-are underway. This group of experts will examine the array of enduring challenges and emerging opportunities.
In addition to the panel highlighted above, the NYISO conference will feature a keynote address from U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) Administrator Adam Sieminski, a second panel discussion on "Competitive Markets: Distributed Resources and Fuel Diversity " and a technology showcase of innovative products and services.
