NYISO Announces Partnership with the Society of Women Engineers

RENSSELAER, NY (03/10/2016)(readMedia)-- The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) announced a professional partnership and corporate sponsorship with the Society of Women Engineers (SWE). SWE helps organizations support their leadership training, achieve their recruitment and retention goals and advance their women engineers.

"The NYISO is committed to attracting and retaining the most talented engineering professionals as we plan for New York's future power needs and work to ensure the grid and electricity markets are operated openly, fairly and efficiently," said NYISO Vice President of Market Operations Emilie Nelson. "Our partnership with Society of Women Engineers will create an excellent forum for employees to collaborate on technical issues, professional development, and build a stronger workforce to support the critical work of the NYISO."

Through SWE, interested NYISO employees will have the ability to connect with more than 30,000 professionals in engineering and technology, access SWE resources, and gain a diverse offering of resources for career advancement. Through regular SWE meetings, the NYISO will coordinate and host various professional development and networking activities such as TED talks, workshops, and recruitment activities.

The mission of SWE is to stimulate women to achieve full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity.

Capital District SWE Section President, Christine Surrette, and Vice President, Deniz Civay attended the first gathering of NYISO employees.

"The New York State Capital District SWE section is thrilled that NYISO is now a SWE Corporate Member, and we look forward to working with their new women's group," said Capital District Section President Christine Surrette.
