RENSSELAER, NY (09/16/2015)(readMedia)-- The Board of Directors of the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) announced today the selection of Bradley C. Jones as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 12, 2015. Mr. Jones will replace Stephen G. Whitley, who has served the NYISO with distinction since 2008. Mr. Whitley announced his intention to retire earlier this year, but will remain with the NYISO to assist with the leadership transition and then to act as an advisor to the Board of Directors.

Mr. Jones is a distinguished energy industry executive with 29 years of wide-ranging experience, including grid operations, power plant operations, generation development, project finance, wholesale and retail market design, and regulatory and legislative affairs.

Mr. Jones has been with the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) since 2013, where he was a Senior VP and Chief Operating Officer with responsibility for Operations, Grid Planning, and Commercial Operations. Prior to that, he was VP for Commercial Operations at the ERCOT.

Before joining ERCOT, Mr. Jones was VP for Government Affairs at Luminant, the competitive generation subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings. Prior to that, Mr. Jones worked at TXU Corporation where he began as a Plant Engineer and rose through the organization to become VP for Generation Development.

"Brad has a strong commitment to reliability and a firm belief in the power of markets to benefit consumers. His talent, experience, and demonstrated commitment to excellence make him a great choice to lead the talented and dedicated men and women of the NYISO," said NYISO Board Chair Michael Bemis. "We are fortunate to have found someone of Brad's caliber to continue to build upon the significant achievements of our outgoing President and CEO, Steve Whitley."

"I am honored to join the NYISO," said Mr. Jones. "I am excited about the opportunity to work with the NYISO's employees and stakeholders, as well as with government officials, as we continue to build the record of service and accomplishment of this talented group of industry professionals."

Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Texas Tech University at Lubbock and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a licensed Professional Engineer.

The NYISO's selection is a result of a nationwide search conducted by Heidrick & Struggles, a leading executive search firm, and an extensive Board interview process.
