NYISO Names Mark Lynch to Board of Directors
RENSSELAER, NY (02/21/2018) (readMedia)-- Former New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) President and CEO and energy industry veteran Mark Lynch has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors, beginning in April 2018. Mr. Lynch previously served as President and Chief Executive Officer and as a member of the NYISO Board of Directors from 2005-2008.
The selection of Mr. Lynch is the result of the NYISO's stakeholder process, in which representatives from each market sector join together with a search firm to conduct a national search and recommend potential directors to the Board.
"Mark Lynch brings a wealth of executive and engineering experience from a very successful 41-year career in the energy industry," said Michael Bemis, Chairman of the Board. "After serving as the President and CEO of the NYISO, two regulated utilities, and as an executive of a competitive power generation company, I know Mark will add significant value to the Board as the NYISO continues to advance the reliability and efficiency of New York's electric system and competitive wholesale markets."
Mr. Lynch was the President and Chief Executive Officer of New York State Electric and Gas Corporation and Rochester Gas and Electric Corporation - both subsidiaries of AVANGRID, Inc. - from 2009 to 2017. He also served as a member of the Board of Directors for both regulated electricity and natural gas utility companies. From 2001 to 2004, he was President of Mirant, New York, an independent power generation company that operated in competitive wholesale electricity markets in New York and New England. His work with Mirant also included serving as Chairman of the Welsh water utility located in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Lynch's experience also includes executive positions with Mississippi Power Company, where he was responsible for power plant and transmission system operations, and Southern Energy, Inc. While with Southern Energy, he served as Executive President and Chairman of Empresa Electrica del Norte Grande, South America, and held positions in project development and management in Indonesia and North America.
Mr. Lynch earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Villanova University.
The NYISO Board is a diverse body comprised of members with backgrounds in the electric power industry, finance, academics, technology, communications and the law. The Board is required by the NYISO's federally approved tariffs to be independent and unaffiliated with any participant in the NYISO markets.
