NYS BAR ASSOCIATION CALLS ON SENATE TO CONFIRM JANET DIFIORE AS CHIEF JUDGE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK

ALBANY, NY (01/20/2016)(readMedia)-- New York State Bar Association President David P. Miranda today urged the state Senate to confirm Janet DiFiore as chief judge of the State of New York.

"Ms. DiFiore has had a long and distinguished career as a public servant," Miranda testified today at a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee in Albany. He cited her career as Westchester County district attorney and as a state Supreme Court justice.

"Based upon her experience, we conclude that Ms. DiFiore is an excellent choice for Chief Judge," he said. "Accordingly, on behalf of the New York State Bar Association, I am pleased to endorse Ms. DiFiore's appointment as Chief Judge and urge the confirmation of her appointment."

The Senate Judiciary Committee reported out her nomination to the Senate, which must confirm her nomination by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The 74,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
