NYS School Superintendents Comment on Commisioner Mills' Resignation

ALBANY, NY (11/01/2008)(readMedia)-- "Richard Mills has been one of New York's longest serving Education Commissioners, and one of its most influential," said Dr. Clark Godshall, president of the New York State Council of School Superintendents and superintendent of the Orleans-Niagara Board of Cooperative Educational Services.

Dr. Thomas Rogers, the Council's Executive Director, added, "Over the span of 13 years, Commissioner Mills has been tenacious in striving to improve learning opportunities and outcomes for every one of New York's children. The reforms he and the Board of Regents championed have had a profound impact on New York's schools."

"Superintendents are grateful for his leadership through a period of profound change," Godshall added. "Our next Commissioner will face unprecedented challenges, helping superintendents continue to raise standards and achievement in an era of tough budgets."

"The Council will recognize Commissioner Mills' contributions at our next statewide conference in January. We wish him success and fulfillment in his future endeavors," said Rogers.
