NYSUT Endorses Ed Kosiur for 105th Assembly Seat

Praises Focus on Children and Education

ALBANY, NY (07/20/2007)(readMedia)-- New York State United Teachers today announced its endorsement of Ed Kosiur in the 105th Assembly district.

“We applaud Ed Kosiur’s strong support of children, students and public education,” said NYSUT President Richard C. Iannuzzi. “We believe he will be a strong successor and ally continuing the hard work and good results produced by Paul Tonko.”

“Kosiur wants to stop the unfettered growth of charter schools and is very concerned about proposals for private school vouchers and tuition tax credits, which are just political gimmicks to weaken New York’s public schools,” Iannuzzi added. “His focus is where it belongs, strengthening public schools for all children.”

More than 2,900 NYSUT members live in the 105th Assembly district.

“We urge our members to actively support Ed’s candidacy,” said NYSUT Executive Vice President Alan B. Lubin. “Educators are informed voters and we will work hard to get out the vote so the district continues to have a strong voice in the Legislature.”

NYSUT represents more than 585,000 teachers, school-related professionals, academic and professional faculty in higher education, professionals in education and health care and retirees. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
