MORRISTOWN, NJ (05/02/2012)(readMedia)-- Natalie Betz of Denville, N.J., has successfully defended her dissertation at the College of Saint Elizabeth (CSE), 2 Convent Road, Morristown, N.J., to earn her doctorate in educational leadership. Betz's dissertation is entitled, "Tides of School Reform: A Case for Servant Leadership." She is in her third year as principal at Parsippany High School in Parsippany, N.J.

"My experience in the College of Saint Elizabeth doctoral program has been a journey of exploration of self through reflection and practice, and a collaborative experience of learning how to foster co-leadership to best serve our school organizations," Betz says.

Betz has more than 17 years of experience at the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District. She began her experience there as a student teacher, and went on to serve as a language arts teacher in the district and then assistant principal at Parsippany High School. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Education, as well a Master of Arts in Education Administration from Montclair State University in Montclair, N.J.

The doctoral program at CSE, which is dedicated to preparing leaders who are committed to social justice and ethical practice, began in August 2007. "Integrated into all course work and learning activities are the central values and beliefs necessary for school leaders to function as morally purposeful stewards for their school communities," states Dr. John Crews, Ed.D., CSE educational leadership program chair. "This philosophy of servant leadership represents a major shift from the traditional paradigm of school leaders as managers of resources, which is so prevalent in today's practices."
