Nate Shepherd Receives Final Convocation Award at Hampden-Sydney College

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA (05/10/2013)(readMedia)-- At Final Convocation on April 25, Hampden-Sydney College junior Nathaniel Stuart Shepherd received the Jeffrey N. Friend Award, presented by Mr. Hakeem Croom '10, Assistant Dean for Intercultural Affairs and Student Activities. This Award is given to the rising senior who best typifies the qualities for which this late member of the Class of 1984 is remembered: a generous spirit, leadership abilities, and an unusual skill for bringing out the best in his friends and brothers.
A Venable Scholar, Nate was recently elected Chairman of the Interfraternity Council and, in that capacity, will chair the IFC Judiciary Committee which enforces the regulations of the self-governing fraternity system. He served as President and House Manager of Sigma Nu and is a member of the Computer Science Club, Habitat for Humanity, and the Big Brothers Mentor Program. At Final Convocation in April 2012, Nate received the Rhetoric Best Speaker Award. A mathematical economics and Spanish major, Nate graduated from Athens Drive High School and is the son of Lucy B. Alexander of Cary and Ric Shepherd of Durham.
