Nazareth College Arts Center 2015-2016 tickets on sale

Highlights of the 49th season include dance, music, special events, family entertainment, and multi-cultural performances by regional and touring artists!

ROCHESTER, NY (05/14/2015)(readMedia)-- The Nazareth College Arts Center is pleased to present its 2015-2016 Season, which will include exciting work from its local partners, Rochester City Ballet and Garth Fagan Dance, as well as a mix of visiting artists presenting world-class dance, multi-cultural entertainment, family programming, music, theatre, and special events.

Discounted, subscription series tickets (for patrons selecting three or more shows) and full-price, single tickets go on sale to the general public Friday, May 15, 2015 via the Box Office, 585-389-2170, or online at artscenter.naz.edu. Subscribers will also receive one complimentary beverage coupon for each subscription ordered by July 15, 2015.

Tickets start at $14 and often include a complimentary pre-performance lecture or activity (pre-registration may be required, see individual performances for details).

Audiences and critics describe Thodos Dance Chicago (TDC) as "breathtakingly athletic," "powerfully beautiful," and performing "vibrant choreography." For the past 22 years, this ensemble of 12 versatile contemporary dancers has delighted audiences with their own original story ballets as well as a diverse array of works created by renowned American choreographers. TDC's performance at the Arts Center will feature mixed repertory as well as the Emmy Award-nominated A Light in the Dark-a story ballet based on the lives of Helen Keller and Anne Sullivan (as told in the book The Miracle Worker).

The year is 1933, and Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Molly Sloan and her intrepid research assistant team up with a mysterious librarian from Flagstaff, Arizona. Together, they travel from Earth to the Robot Planet and finally to Imperial Zygon to defeat a terrible threat to humanity: an invading force of sludge-monsters! This live-action graphic novel is a mash-up of an audio drama and a comic book, with big-screen artwork, three actors voicing all the characters, a Foley artist creating hundreds of sound effects, and a pianist performing the cinematic score-all live on stage.

Drawing on elements from the flowing lines of Chinese calligraphy to the thundering motion of martial arts, Nai-Ni Chen is one of the few Asian-American choreographers to seamlessly blend the dynamic freedom of American modern dance with the grace and splendor of Asian art. Chen's critically acclaimed, award-winning "visual poetry" (Village Voice) has mesmerized audiences worldwide. Chen comes from a rich dance tradition-having been a renowned traditional dancer in China before seeking her own voice in the world of contemporary dance-and her wide-ranging repertoire includes dances that originated thousands of years ago as well as highly abstract, modern works.

Installation artist and experimental musician William Close has built more than 100 one-of-a-kind musical instruments, including the world's largest string instrument, the Earth Harp. The body of the harp rests on stage, while its strings-which Close rubs with rosin-covered gloves to create its cello-like sound-travel above the audience and attach to the back of the theater, turning the entire space into an instrument. In addition to being finalists on America's Got Talent, Close and the musicians and artists who make up the Earth Harp Collective have thrilled audiences worldwide with their fusion of music, art, and architecture.

Over the past decade, globalFEST has become one of the most dynamic events in North America. What started as an annual global music showcase in New York City has grown to include stages at SXSW and Bonnaroo, spotlighting artists who represent diverse international styles, bringing down boundaries between countries, and creating cultural opportunities for collaboration.
