Nazareth College Hosts A Cappella Competiton, Feb. 27
ROCHESTER, NY (02/04/2010)(readMedia)-- Fans of hit shows like Glee and The Sing Off don't have to wait for new episodes to get their a cappella fix. On February 27 at 7 p.m., Nazareth College's women's a cappella group Call4Backup hosts the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal. The event will take place in the Linehan Chapel of the Golisano Academic Center. Tickets will be sold from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. outside the Shults Center Forum on February 10 and 11 and are $10 for students and $15 for the general public. Nazareth plays host to a cappella groups from colleges across New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania including: A Sharp Arrangement, The Pitches, and The Pointercounts (SUNY Potsdam), A Whole Step Up (Lehigh University), After Hours (University of Rochester), Casual Harmony (Rutgers University), Counterpoint (Carnegie Mellon University), The Key Elements (Cornell University), The Mandarins (Syracuse University), and The Rusty Pipes (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute).
The ICCA is part of the Varsity Vocals International Championship of A Cappella, the only international tournament showcasing the art of student a cappella singing. The program is dedicated to providing top-notch collegiate a cappella groups with valuable feedback from qualified judges. They give young vocalists the opportunity to showcase their talent to an international audience and develop relationships with other a cappella singers, cultivating the art of a cappella into a lifelong love of music.
Call4Backup was founded in 1999 by Mandy Elliot and Sarah Capo, the group consists of 10 to 16 singers and holds auditions at the beginning of each school year. Members come from all different majors.
Founded in 1924, Nazareth College is a coeducational college with undergraduate and graduate studies in the liberal arts and sciences and professional programs in health and human services, education, and management. The College is located on 150 scenic acres near Rochester, New York, and currently enrolls approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students.
