Nazareth College Music Department and UR Skalny Center welcome Il Giardino d'Amore Baroque Orchestra on Oct 25

Poland's acclaimed chamber orchestra returns to Rochester with a program of early music!

ROCHESTER, NY (10/10/2016)(readMedia)-- The Nazareth College Department of Music, in collaboration with the Skalny Center for Polish and Central European Studies at the University of Rochester, is pleased to welcome back Poland's acclaimed Il Giardino d'Amore Baroque Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra will perform in Nazareth College's Linehan Chapel on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at 7: 30 p.m.

This event is free and open to the public.

Il Giardino d'Amore is made up of young musicians and vocalists from Poland, Italy, Spain, and France. Founded in 2011 by violinist Stefan Plewniak, the orchestra has performed on concert stages and at prestigious music festivals throughout Europe and North America, including the Bach Festival in Vienna and the Early Music Festival in New York City.

The orchestra is in the midst of a one-month North America tour, and its return appearance in Rochester will feature masterpieces of Polish Renaissance Music, in celebration of the 1050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland.

The NAZARETH COLLEGE MUSIC DEPARTMENT integrates intensive studies in music (musicianship and performance), with professional programs and the liberal arts, for a truly unique experience that prepares students for careers in music and equips them with the skills to share the art of music in a variety of capacities. Each degree program is designed to prepare students not only for careers within the various degree areas, but also for exciting endeavors that will perpetuate and sustain the art of music in local and global communities. The SKALNY CENTER FOR POLISH AND CENTRAL EUROPEAN STUDIES AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER was established through a grant from the Louis Skalny Foundation and is housed within the Department of Political Science at the University of Rochster. As an academic meeting place for teaching and research, the Skalny Center brings together faculty and students who wish to study the historical legacy and current transformations within Central Europe.
