Bikes@Naz Cycling to Success

ROCHESTER, NY (11/09/2015)(readMedia)-- The League of American Bicyclists recognizes Nazareth College with a bronze level Bicycle Friendly University (BFU) award, joining more than 100 visionary colleges and universities from across the country.

With the announcement of 49 new and renewing BFUs today from 31 states, Nazareth College joins a cutting-edge group of colleges and universities across the United States transforming their campuses and the communities around them. There are now 127 BFUs in 42 states and Washington, D.C.

"In its fourth year, we've seen the Bicycle Friendly University program reach an exciting level of growth and momentum, as more and more campuses support bicycling in new and innovative ways," said Amelia Neptune, the League's Bicycle Friendly University program manager. "From bike storage inside dorm rooms to bicycle-powered music festivals, we applaud this round of BFUs for raising the standard of what a bicycle-friendly campus looks like."

The Nazareth College Bike Project is a collaborative effort between Student Activities and Greenprint@Naz in which the College aims to increase environmental efforts and provide a healthy means of transportation across campus. Nazareth College encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as Bike@Naz and incentives such as rentals free of charge to all Nazareth students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis.

"The BFU award is the result of substantial support from Nazareth students, faculty and staff. Bikes@Naz prides itself on improving sustainability and wellness for the campus community. We will continue to provide new and innovative active transportation initiatives that will keep Nazareth College a Bike Friendly University for years to come," says Brian McGahan, Founder of the Nazareth College Bike Project.

Moving forward, Nazareth College will have access to a variety of free tools and technical assistance from the League to become even more bicycle-friendly. When colleges and universities invest in bicycling, great things happen: reduced carbon footprint, increased connections to the community, and a fun and healthy campus culture.
