Nazareth College Offers New Post-Baccalaureate Pre-Med, Pre-Dental and Pre-Vet Certificate Program

ROCHESTER, NY (05/14/2014)(readMedia)-- With an increased need for doctors and dentists in the U.S. and employment opportunities growing for veterinarians, Nazareth College is introducing a new post-baccalaureate pre-medical, pre-dental and pre-veterinary certificate program. The post-baccalaureate program is designed for candidates who have an excellent undergraduate academic record and have completed a bachelor's degree but lack the required science courses to seek admission to medical, dental, or veterinary schools. Nazareth prides itself on personalized support, offering MCAT preparation, one-on-one advisement, and assistance with letters for recommendation for application to medical, dental, and veterinary schools.

Students may choose to begin the program in the summer or fall, though a summer start is recommended. To qualify, students must have completed an undergraduate degree in any major at an accredited institution with a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 or higher. The program is designed to be completed in one year. A flexible schedue of course times and types allows students to pursue their studies while balancing work and family life.

"It is important for Nazareth to offer this program because we recognize that life's professional journey may require an individual to pursue a clinical career that they may have thought was unavailable to them. The small class size and individualized attention are hallmarks of Nazareth College," said program director Brian Witz. "The program is unique because it offers individualized attention for the student, both in terms of academic advisement and assistance with the application process, including the writing of a composite letter of recommendation, and offering mock interviews."

Courses offered include: anatomy and physiology, biology, chemistry, physics, biochemistry, genetics, microbiology, and more. Nazareth's facilities include the Integrated Center for Math and Science, housed in the newly constructed Peckham Hall that features a $1.2 million anatomy and physiology laboratory complete with a six-table human gross anatomy dissection suite and a human exercise performance (metabolic cart) system. The new Wellness and Rehabilitation Institute is slated to open in the fall of 2015 and will expand clinic and collaboration space.
