ROCHESTER, NY (09/03/2009)(readMedia)-- Nazareth College's School of Health and Human Services is pleased to announce that it will offer a five-year master's program in occupational therapy in the fall of 2010. Occupational therapy is a dynamic field with many employment opportunities in schools, hospitals or rehabilitation centers, nursing homes, home care, and in private practice. Students in the program will be introduced to the practice of occupational therapy in a new on-campus clinic and through various clinical outreach activities including community wellness and therapy programs such as the one conducted at the Hickok Center for Brain Injury. Students will be introduced to a variety of interdisciplinary areas such as speech-language pathology, physical therapy, art therapy, music therapy, social work, and nursing. Currently, no other college in the Rochester area offers a program in occupational therapy.

Occupational therapists work to help people gain or regain the ability to engage in meaningful "occupation" in life including, daily living, recreational activities, job duties and social activities. They may also work to modify a person's physical and cognitive capacity and/or modify the environment in such a way that effective participation is possible.
