Nazareth College Opera Workshop has been in existence for over a decade, giving Nazareth students the opportunity to perform roles from the lyric theatre repertoire. It also gives students an enriched opportunity to learn and understand how to effectively communicate physically and emotionally the sung word. Nazareth College Opera Workshop brings together all of the aspects of theatrical production, from sets, props and costumes, to such elements as stage combat, dance, costume coordination, stage management, lighting design and operation, character development and greater body awareness. Jessica Best, a 2006 graduate of the program and national opera performer, said, "Nazareth Opera Workshop was the launch pad of my operatic career. The nurturing environment complete with a creative artistic team made opera workshop at Nazareth a perfect place to grow."
Opera Workshop also strives to expose the Nazareth and greater Rochester communities to live performances of a greater cross section of the music theatre repertoire to include opera and operetta chosen from the Italian baroque through contemporary works.
