LAKE FOREST, IL (10/31/2013)(readMedia)-- Lake Forest College football players Ed Dobernig (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and John Preston were named to the National Team of the Week by D3football.com on Wednesday. They accounted for four turnovers between them in the Foresters' 17-10 victory at Cornell College on Saturday.

Dobernig, a senior cornerback, returned his third interception of the season 32 yards to end Cornell's first drive of the game and the visitors took the early lead on a 21-yard touchdown pass on the next play. He also recovered a fumble at the Ram 33-yardline late in the third quarter and headed up the left sideline and into the end zone for his second career touchdown. Dobernig finished the game with six tackles, including five solos, and added three pass breakups to his stat line.

Preston, a junior inside linebacker, now leads Lake Forest with four interceptions after picking off the Cornell quarterback twice on Saturday. He returned the first seven yards to set up a third quarter field goal that made the score 10-3. The Rams were driving with less than 11 minutes to play when he picked off another pass at the Forester 7-yardline and brought the ball out to the 36. Preston also had four tackles on the day.

Preston and Dobernig have combined for 92 tackles, seven interceptions, and a pair of fumble recoveries this season to help lead a Forester defense that has allowed just 15.2 points per contest.

Dobernig has now earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors twice this season and three times in his career. He was also named Midwest Conference Defensive Performer of the Week on Monday.
