New Berlin native Molly Wallner named Women's Hockey's Most Valuable Player at Lake Forest College
The senior defenseman scored two goals with three assists for the Foresters.
LAKE FOREST, IL (03/29/2012)(readMedia)-- The Lake Forest College Athletic Department held its annual Winter Sports Awards Ceremony on Sunday, March 25, at the First Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest. Among the many awards given out were plaques for each sport's Most Valuable and Most Improved Performers.
Senior defenseman Molly Wallner (New Berlin, Ill./Chicago Young Americans/St. Francis de Sales) earned Most Valuable Player honors and freshman defenseman Erin Shamley (Cheyenne, Wyo./Minnesota Crunch/Cheyenne Central) was named the Most Improved Player of the Forester women's hockey team. Wallner had two goals and three assists and ranked second on the team with a +14 plus/minus rating. She finished her career at +25 with seven goals and 21 assists. Shamley played in all 27 games, scored her first career goal against Finlandia University on December 2, and added a pair of assists.
The Foresters finished the season with a 15-10-2 overall record and a 12-7-1 record in the NCHA. Lake Forest lost in the semifinals of the NCHA O'Brien Cup Tournament.
